One of the things that I’m most excited to implement on the Island is an ethanol distillation system. In analyzing the fauna on the island, we’ve so far found two main possibilities exist as yeast feeders: prickly pods that grow all over the island that may have enough carbohydrates for the fermentation process and fruits from our various fruiting trees.
I’ve also put out a few feelers for local sources of sugar or carbs that could be cheaply (or freely!) acquired. Maybe of the nearby islands has a dough nut shop? The way things have been going for me, I would not be surprised.
We’re mainly following the advice of the great David Bloom. His book is indispensable. If you have never heard of David, there are several, easily digested interviews. A nice place to start might be his recent appearance on TheHighersideChats.
